Sharlet See's

A few months ago I was looking for encouragement - something for this weary pilot's wife who felt worn out and exhausted. The aviation industry can be very hard on family life. We strive as Christian parents to raise our kids up in God's truth and want to display that practically as well in our lives as we serve others in love & hospitality and stay strongly involved in our local church.
I turned to google and started frantically typing in different phrases and words to find other pilot wife blogs - that had a heart for Christ behind them. I prayed to God,
"Help me to find a blog or resource written by a seasoned, wise pilot's wife. A women with knowledge, helpful hints and a heart after your word who can direct me in this season of life."
My search came up quite short, in fact, what I found was a lot of the opposite of what I was seeking. While I connected with a lot of the pilot wife blogs I found - full of complaints and challenges.. they definitely did not leave me feeling refreshed, helped or encouraged. They didn't point me to God's word and how he might be trying to change and shape me through each daily challenge in motherhood or in my marriage. I came up empty handed.
So that's when I felt challenged to start a blog series. Maybe I can start to come up with some helpful tools, some "I've been there, here's how I've grown from this challenge" and "I'm choosing to see the joy in this today" kind of posts. I am far from a good writer, so you will have to bear with me as I fumble around.. but my prayer is that you will be encouraged by the things I share here. That each post, will in turn, bring Glory to our great King and Lord, and that we will be constantly driven to Him and His word for comfort and strength each day, no matter what he has ordained for our lives.
"Your eyes saw my unformed subsatnce; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them."  - Psalm 139:16

My sister in law was creating a box of encouragements for a friend the other day and asked if I have ever designed "promise cards". I had never heard of such cards, so I quickly did some research and figured out what she was talking about.

A few posts ago I mentioned the memory verse cards that I was creating for myself, to help me memorize scripture, well these are a lot like that. They are cards of encouragement with verses specific to the promises of God, which he has given to his children in his Word.

I am going to challenge myself and try and memorize these 6 verses I've designed. I hope they can bring some encouragement to you as well. If you'd like to purchase them for yourself (to use as a bookmark in your bible, or maybe to encourage a friend) you can find them as an easy digital download in my etsy store. Just print them out yourself :)

Emma has ben busy getting her eye teeth in all week...
so if you're a mom I am sure you can imagine what my week has been like.

Here are some wonderful links I'd love to share this week.

I really enjoyed reading Kristi's post Reading the Bible vs. Studying the Bible: What’s the Difference?
over on And Babies Don't Keep (off topic: her blog title comes from a poem that pulls at my heart strings) Anyways, I loved her reminder of just simply taking time to read and relish in God's word as well as study it. Thanks Kristi.

My sister-in-law (@ peck cloths) makes these cute washcloths for babes, I have about a million that I use everyday for Emma after mealtimes and bath. They are so soft and durable, you can wash them over and over, but my favourite part is that the patterns are actually cute (that can be hard to find) check them out.

Ouch, Narcissistic By Nature written by Jen over on her blog Adorned hit me hard and really convicted me.

"Christian narcissism is when we believe, talk, and act as though the Christian life is all about one’s self: it’s about my progress, my failures, my growth in holiness, my sins, my quiet time, my walk with Jesus."

Such a good read for all of us.

The Gospel Centered Woman website.

This is a new site created to supplying great resources for discipling women with the gospel as a central focus.

When reading Wendy Alsup's post about the site coming out she mentions the site authors being "burdened that each of us understand the depth and breadth of what Jesus' has done for us. And, like me, they are particularly burdened for women to understand these things." What a blessing!! To have sisters and brothers in Christ who see the importance of women knowing biblical truth.

Check out the site if you haven't already. I am particularly excited about the series - The Gospel and the Old Testament. Here's a little exert from the opening post... this series sounds so great!

"However, many well meaning Christians in our churches have a file cabinet view of the stories of the Old Testament. In that paradigm, the Psalms contain files of reassuring words for hard moments. Genesis’ file folder is full of interesting moral lessons. The Proverbs file is useful when one needs good advice. The Law and Minor Prophets? Many aren’t sure of their purpose, and the file folders containing those stories often gather dust. The separate file folder approach to the Old Testament misses the connections between those stories and the gospel that Jesus explained on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24. When we look for the gospel in the Old Testament, the separate file folders open up, and the characters stumble out of our filing cabinet, joining hands from Genesis until Jesus appears in person in Matthew. Each story feeds the next, teaching us of God’s good plan before time began to redeem His people."

I took this picture at sunset on a fall day in Port Elgin.  Andrew and I were sharing a few days at a cute little cottage with my parents. We were celebrating my Moms victory in surviving breast cancer that year. It felt so sweet to walk with her and Dad through the harbour, savouring God's goodness and beautiful creation. I will always cherish this time, full of beach walks with Mom, warm hot chocolate and just relishing in her company and wonderful wisdom.

This design will soon be available in my etsy shop as an art print for download.

From my family to yours - we are wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1 vs 12-17

This print available in my Lovely Ink Designs shop.

I will admit, with Emma being 14 months, I am more busy running after her than reading books. But occasionally when I get to sit down and absorb a few pages these are the two books I've been able to enjoy - Jen Wilkins Book Women of The Word, and Aimee Bryds Book Housewife Theologian.

Lately, more then ever, I've felt called to sincerely be in God's Word, studying it and really getting to KNOW it. Both books are great encouragers on that front and both ladies are sure to keep their focus on God throughout while encouraging me to dive in and become a theologian myself.

To read more from both authors, visit their blogs at thebeginningofwisdom and housewifetheologian.
