Sharlet See's

A few months ago I was looking for encouragement - something for this weary pilot's wife who felt worn out and exhausted. The aviation industry can be very hard on family life. We strive as Christian parents to raise our kids up in God's truth and want to display that practically as well in our lives as we serve others in love & hospitality and stay strongly involved in our local church.
I turned to google and started frantically typing in different phrases and words to find other pilot wife blogs - that had a heart for Christ behind them. I prayed to God,
"Help me to find a blog or resource written by a seasoned, wise pilot's wife. A women with knowledge, helpful hints and a heart after your word who can direct me in this season of life."
My search came up quite short, in fact, what I found was a lot of the opposite of what I was seeking. While I connected with a lot of the pilot wife blogs I found - full of complaints and challenges.. they definitely did not leave me feeling refreshed, helped or encouraged. They didn't point me to God's word and how he might be trying to change and shape me through each daily challenge in motherhood or in my marriage. I came up empty handed.
So that's when I felt challenged to start a blog series. Maybe I can start to come up with some helpful tools, some "I've been there, here's how I've grown from this challenge" and "I'm choosing to see the joy in this today" kind of posts. I am far from a good writer, so you will have to bear with me as I fumble around.. but my prayer is that you will be encouraged by the things I share here. That each post, will in turn, bring Glory to our great King and Lord, and that we will be constantly driven to Him and His word for comfort and strength each day, no matter what he has ordained for our lives.
"Your eyes saw my unformed subsatnce; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them."  - Psalm 139:16

Andrew loves a good, hearty vegetable garden. This year we has two garden boxes that will be full of a great variety of fresh veggies for us to eat! Andrew build a really neat fence system around our main garden (the fence lifts right off and on to allow easy access to all sides) to keep out bunnies or unwanted critters from digging up seeds etc. He also made some fancy potato boxes.

In the garden below, we have already planted onions, peas, carrots, spinach and in those potato boxes, Yukon Gold & Red potatoes.

We also have very large flower beds surrounding our place. Last year they ran wild (as we had no time to work in them with Emma just being born) but this year we will be spending a lot of time playing and relaxing outside so we wanted to try to manage them a bit better. We decided to use black cedar mulch to try and control the weeds a bit and so far it has been helping. These gardens are growing fast and just starting to bloom. We love sitting out back on our swing now and will be spending a lot of time back here :)

I also purchased a little swing for Emma at toys r us the other day. Andrew tied it up in one of the trees on our lot, and she LOVES it.

Its been a while since I posted (which is usual).

Andrew has been up to his old tricks, cooking us delicious meals. He made a wonderful Quiche last week including broccoli, onions, and peppers all from our own garden. And more recently we enjoyed some fresh steak (marinated in salt), along with a homemade potato salad (it was so good!!) and some of our gardens green beans. Nom nom nom.

At the beginning of August, Andrew also had his 30th Birthday!!!

Unfortunately he was away with work on the actual day, but Emma and I were ready at home when he got back with a warm birthday welcome. (He's only getting more and more handsome with age, but maybe that has something to do with how cute this photo of him holding little Em is below ;) He is truly an amazing father.

Stay tuned for Emma's 3 month pictures coming at the beginning of September! :) xo

In our house, Andrew is the king of the kitchen. I really lucked out. Not only does Andrew cook 90% of all our meals (usually from scratch - we are talking homemade bread, veggies straight from our garden), he does it extremely well. I have been eating like a Queen ever since we got married.

I've been meaning to blog more about the beautiful meals Andrew cooks our family, so I've decided to do a little blog series called "My Husband Cooks" where I'll display the scrumptious meals & treats Andrew dishes out week after week.

For dinner tonight we are starting with a Spaghetti Bolognese. This dish had a homemade sauce (which was absolutely delicious), caesar salad and garlic bread on the side. We finished the meal off with little personal sized chocolate cakes & ice cream - yum!

We welcomed Emma Lynn into the world on Tuesday June 4th, at 9:55 pm. I was able to have a home birth (which is a crazy story in itself) and with only 4.5 hours of labour and the help of my midwife, Emma arrived. She is a tiny 6lb 6oz and a nice 20 inches long.

One week old today - the week has just flown by. Emma is quite adorable, making it very difficult for me to choose only a few photos of my already hundreds to share... Here is our little bundle of joy :) We are so thankful for her. God is good.

And just for fun - here are some photos of Emma's many "poses."

I'm officially full term!

My wonderful sister in law was gracious enough to take some shots of Andrew and I before I pop! We just wanted some low key pictures to remember this time of anticipation. She did a really great job, and we now have some wonderful memories for down the road :)

Thanks again Sarah! xo

A few weeks ago, A and I decided to take a little "babymoon" (or so that's what they call them) to Niagara on the Lake. We stayed at a real cozy B&B called The Park Place. Our hosts were great and the breakfast was to die for! We also made reservations at a neat restaurant called The Syndicate Brewery & Restaurant. The Syndicate takes pride in having "Farm to Table" - fresh and local food, and it was delicious.

All in all our trip was a great way to reconnect and relax with each other after Andrew's long month of training and before we welcome the new addition to our family. We were so happy to get away :)

Below are our token shots in front of the falls ;)

Now that it's been a good week and a half since the official "love day" I am finally writing a post about it. Ha! Andrew and I had a lovely day. I made him a card and in turn he made me dinner (and of course got me chocolates ;)

I also found a really cute idea online (for all those book worms out there) of making a V-Day Bookmark for your sweetheart. This idea immediately made me think of my sister and her husband (they are your classic book worms). So I made up a little bookmark for her to give her husband at their cute (and what looks like delicious) Valentine's dinner - Yum!

With a snowfall warning of 15 - 25 cm today, and a large storm watch that covers all of Southern Ontario - many of us have snow days. Andrew and I decided to get outside for a little bit - he shovelled... while I took pictures of the pretty trees around our home.

Here is a picture of us with the 20 week photos when we got home... its so exciting to see the lil' one on screen, he/she was moving around so much that we could barely get a look! Then decided to curl up into a tight ball when the technician was trying to get pictures of its organs, tisk tisk. We are waiting to find out the sex till it makes an appearance in June :)

At the beginning of May, Andrew and I got to spend a Sunday afternoon at Andrew's hangar and a nearby park with 3Photography (Specifically Jaclyn), our wedding photographer. She did an awesome job, and we were way beyond happy with our photos!! We would recommend the girls at 3Photography - so make sure to check out their blog & site. Check em' out!
